Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. ---------------------------------------------------- MADILL RECORD - OCT 5, 1973 - PG.10 LONGTIME OAKLAND CITY OFFICIAL DIES SATURDAY EVENING Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning in Madill for Cherry Bell Johnson, 68 year old longtime city clerk of Oakland. Mrs. Johnson died Saturday evening. She had been in ill health for some time. Paul Shero, Madill Church of Christ preacher officiated for the services from Watts Memorial Chapel. Singing was arranged by Lucille Murray with burial in the Oakland cemetery. Casket escorts were F.L. Lewis, Tige Cornelson, Dub Brown, Roy Jacks, Clinton Williams, George Putman, Cyril Petty and Lloyd Henson. Mrs. Johnson, wife of Dick Johnson, was born march 7, 1904, in Marietia. She moved with her family to Oakland in 1913 and had attended school and resided here since that time. She was married to James A. "Dick" Johnson, June 3, 1922, in Madill. Mrs. Johnson had been City Clerk in Oakland 13 years. She had retired from that position about two years ago. She had been a member of the Church of Christ since she was a young girl. Other than her husband of the family home in Oakland, she is survived by a brother, Sam Summers, of Frederick.
