Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. ---------------------------------------------------- MADILL NEWS SEPT 2, 1993 ( BILLY VANCE HAWKINS) Funeral services will be conducted at 10 A.M. today (Thursday) for Billy Vance Hawkins, 68, an active and life long resident of this area. Mr. Hawkins, a retired Game Ranger, died Tuesday morning in an Oklahoma City Hospital. Don Huddleston will officiate for services at Watts Memorial Chapel. Music will be arranged by Mary Heubsch. Born July 8, 1925, in Madill to the late Houston Vance and Oma Nathaline Green Hawkins, Mr. Hawkins lived his entire life in the Madill Oakland area, except for his Military service. He attended School in Oakland and Madill, serving with the U.S. Army and Army Reserve 11 years after graduating High School. Mr. Hawkins and Juanita Stowers were married Sept 4, 1955 at Santa Fe, N.M. she survives. He worked as a farmer and rancher prior to his appointment as a Game Ranger with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife conservation. Mr. Hawkins served 29 years as a Ranger, earning recognition as Ranger of the year and receiving the Medal of Valor in 1970. He retired from the position in 1990. Active in Community Affairs, Mr. Hawkins was closely involved as a Volunteer Coach with the Lions Baseball Program. He was an Honor member of the Madill all Sports Booster Club. Nicknamed Sergeant by his grandchildren, Mr. Hawkins had been a Member of the Madill Church of Christ since 1950. In addition to his wife of the family home, west of Madill, he is survived by two sons, Tony Alan and Billy Michael Hawkins, and two daughters, Dawn LaRae Shebister and Danita Carol Dowlen, all of Madill. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Brian, Jason, Jaret, Shantel, Takeers, Lakesha and Hailey. A brother Joe Green; two sisters Lois Wood of Edmond and Louise Matlack of Madill, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Wilson. Casket escorts for services and burial in the Oakland Cemetery will be Paul Mauck, Will Cook, Marcelle Cavalle, Bruce Schulse, John Cox, L.A. Robertson, Harold Scates, Tom Reynolds, Clinton Williams. and H.G. (Doc) Watkins. Honorary escorts will be Toss Crow, Bill Ayers, Brian Johnson, Monroe Thompson, Jimmy Henthorn and R.C. Bales. Service arrangements are under the Watts Funeral Home.
