The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Source: [Nov.1957] ---------------------------------------------------------------- PIONEER RESIDENT DIES IN ARDMORE; RITES HELD HERE [Nov.1957] Services were held Tuesday in the Little City Baptist church for Meredith Lee Smith, 73, pioneer resident of Marshall county, who died in Ardmore Sunday. He had been ill for the past tow months. Rev. Paul Box officaited at the services, assisted by Rev. J.V. Porter. Burial was in Cumberland Cemetery under direction of Watts Funeral Home. He was born in Texas, October 17, 1884, but moved to Marshall county before statehood. He married Nellie Hockett on December 23, 1920 and they lived in Aylesworth and Cumberland for many years, where he was a farmer. They moved to Oakland in 1951, and then to Little City where he was making his home at the time of his death. He was a member of the Little City Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; daughter, Mrs. Charles R. Wallace, Cumberland; son, Stanley Smith, Little City; two brothers, L.B. Smith, St. Helena, Calif., and Fred Smith, Bismark, Mo., two siters, Mrs. Minnie Mayberry, Kermit, Tex., and Mrs. Dora Long, Cumberland; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers were W.Y. Spence, V.M. Steadman, Ted Kinman, Jess Forsythe, Vernon Maxwell, and Frank Maxwell. [Submitter's note: died November 17, 1957]
