"Hux" Taliaferro, 76-year-old son of Madill's founder, died Thursday [3-1-75]. His death came after an extended period of ill health. Funeral services for Mr. Taliaferro will be conducted this morning from Watts Memorial Chapel at 10 a.m. with Rev. Glenn Millard, First United Methodist church pastor, officiating A native of old Pickens county, I.T., Mr. Taliaferro's family has been closely linked with the early-day development of this region. His grandfather, Lt. Col. T.D. Taliaferro, was a commander at old Fort Washita during occupancy by the Confederacy. Upon his death in 1907, Col. Taliaferro became the first person to be buried in Woodberry-Forest cemetery. Land for the cemetery was donated to the City of Madill by the Taliaferro family. During these early days, the Taliaferro family owned what was then considered a sizeable holding of land in what is now Madill and the surrounding area. That ownership was acquired through an indian grant. Mr. Taliaferro's father, the late William Norborne Taliaferro, better known by his initials, was the founder of Madill. His mother was the late Mary Estella Null Taliaferro. Born October 24, 1901, Mr. Taliaferro was named Robert Dorsey. Most people knew him by the nickname of Hux He and Mrs. Taliaferro, the former Jerri Rea, were married in Madill October 31, 1943. They made their home at 1005 West Lillie Boulevard. Other than his wife, he is survived by a sister, Mary Blanton, of Sherman, Tex. and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers for the services and burial in Woodberry-Forest cemetery will be Dr. Logan Beard, Harold Brown, Marcus Carter, Dan Little, L.V. Little, Donald Ray Morgan, W.Y.Spence and Robert Watts. Honorary escorts will be Guy Beasley, W.C. Butler, George Carlton, Tom Humphrey, Lester King, Quentin Little, Wayne Oliver, Albert Shebester, Harold Slack and Herman Turbyfill
