Taliaferro, 62, one of the founders of the City of Madill, Capitalist, president of the First National Bank in Madill, landowner, cattleman and big street and road contractor, Marshall county’s wealthiest citizen, died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Erwin, in Dallas, Texas at 12:10 Wednesday morning. Mr. Taliaferro was first confined to his home in Sherman, Texas, several weeks ago with attack of creeping paralysis, but had been able to be up on the streets since that time. Recently he had gone to a hospital in Dallas, Texas, where Mrs. Taliaferro, was also confined. He had left the hospital, gone to the home of his sister when death overtook him. Funeral services will be held at the family residence in Sherman at 1001 South Crockett Street at 2:30 o’clock today, Thursday, and interment will be made in the mausoleum cemetery there. D.B. Taliaferro was a pioneer cattleman, coming to the Indian Territory some forty-two years ago. With his brother, the late W.N. Taliaferro and Judge Isaac Overton Lewis, the town site of Madill was laid out in 1901. Mr. Taliaferro succeeded his brother as president of the First National bank in 1919 at his death and at the organization of the New First National Bank and the Marshall County National Bank he became president. From the organization of the old First National Bank in Oakland as the Cottonwood National Bank in 1899, he was either director or vice-president. In addition to his Madill bank interest, Mr. Taliaferro was a director of the Merchants and Planters National Bank of Sherman, Texas and identified with numerous institutions of Oklahoma and Texas. Surviving the deceased are his widow, who is a sister of D.D. Whiting, president of the Madill National Bank, two sons Norborne and George, and two daughters LoRene and Mary Byrd. Norborne has been associated with his father in the construction business, while George makes his home in Madill and looks after the various Taliaferro interests here. LoRene is a student at AustinCollege and Mary Byrd is an elementary student. Note of Mary Byrd: He was considered a man of good business judgment --as to his wealth, I doubt he was the wealthiest man in the county.
