The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Source: Madill Record 1970 ------------------------------------------------------------------ TOOTS’ WHITING DIES OF CANCER; RITES SATURDAY Madill Record 1970 Dugan (Toots) Whiting, son of an early-day Madill Banker, died Thursday of cancer in a Denison hospital. He was 59 years old. Mr. Whiting had visited in Madill only about two weeks ago and apparently was in excellent health. He entered the hospital only three or four days before his death, which came immediately following an operation for internal cancer. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. D.D. Whiting, and the stepson of Mrs. Zelma Whiting. He was born in Madill January 26, 1911. His father was president of The Madill National Bank up until the time of his death, and whom the late Marvin B. Bryant, who continued as president, then succeeded and later as chairman of the board for the remainder of his lifetime. Mr. Whiting was reared in Madill and was graduated from Madill High School in 1929 and attended Oklahoma State University after graduation. He was a veteran of World War II. It was while stationed in Germany that he met Elenore Leva, who came to this country and the couple was married on November 27, 1948, in ceremonies at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Bryant, in Madill. He operated a ranch in the Bells, Texas, area and was a member of the board of directors of the First National Bank at Bells at the time of his death. He was member of the Grace Lutheran church in Denison. Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Mullican-Little chapel in Bells. Burial was in North Cemetery. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughter, Carin, a student at the University of Texas, and Ingrid of Bells, Texas, a sister, Mrs. Noweta Underwood of Dallas, and his stepmother, Mrs. Zelma Whiting of Madill. His brother Edward (Son) preceded him in death in 1969. Pallbearers were Pete Hudgins, Jack Pritchard, Wallace Carr, James Rudd, Bill Fleming and Donald Gilliam. submitted by Ella Byrd Reirdon Brown
