D.D. WHITING, WHO PASSED AWAY FEBRUARY 12,1921 Madill Record 1921 Wife of cashier Whiting Was Ever Ready to Relieve Suffering and the Distressed; Often Spoke Words of Encouragement; Her Place Hard to Fill. Mrs. D.D. Whiting, wife of D.D. Whiting, cashier of the Madill National Bank, passed from life unto death at her home in Madill, February 12, 1921, after an illness of ten days. She was the daughter of Mattie Carter and Edward Sacra. Lillian Dale Sacra, was united in marriage to Dugan Whiting at Oakland, March 26, 1906. She leaves her husband and three children: Edward Claude, Dugan Dale, and Noweta, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her departure. Her sweet little infant child, Lillian Byrd, a breath from heaven having stayed with her awhile to brighten her life here, returned home February 26, 1920 to welcome her mother there upon her arrival. Mrs. Whiting remarked a few hours before her eyes were closed in death. “ Lillian Byrd is calling me. I must go to her.” Her daily life was an exemplification of the teachings of Christ, Eveready, ever willing to relieve the suffering or the distressed to comfort the sorrowing or the afflicted. No one can fully realize how much she is missed, or the good that she has done until now she is gone. Additional Notes: Her mother, Mattie Carter (1862-1950) was married in 1878 to Governor Benjamin F. Overton, (1836-1884) Governor of the Chickasaw Nation, before she was married to Edward Sacra. She was the daughter of Colbert Carter and Elizabeth Humphrey and was 26 years younger than B.F. Overton. They were the parents of two daughters, which would be 1/2 sisters of Lillian Dale Sacra. Clemmie Overton (1882-1962) married Will Shelton and had a daughter VanNoy Shelton. Clemmie is buried in the Oakland cemetery. Frankie Overton was first married to Ludie Johnston, son of Douglas Johnston, Governor of the Chickasaws for many years. They had a son Ralph Johnston. Ralph Johnston was a relative and very good friend of our father Jack Joseph Reirdon . D.D. Whiting was a brother to our grandmother Byrd Whiting, who was the mother of LoRene Reirdon.
