James Ellen O. James, 82, born November 10, 1923 in Pryor, Okla. Died on October 7, 2006 in Medford, Ore. She passed away at home, in the presence of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob James; her sister, Sandra Sherin; and her brother, Homer Sullivan. She is survived by her sons, Frank, of Pacifica, Calif. and Mark, of Scapoose, Ore.; her granddaughter, Janelle, of Scapoose, Ore.; her grandson, Jesse, of St. Helens, Ore.; sisters, Velma Woodruff, of Medford, Ore., Shirley Rapp, of Elma, Wash.; and brother, John Sullivan, of Medford, Ore. Ellen and her family were "Dust Bowl" migrants and left Oklahoma in the early 30's traveling through the southwest picking cotton and anything else that grew. The family eventually settled in Medford, Oregon. Ellen worked in the pear industry and became Oregon's first female U.S.D.A. inspector. At her request no formal ceremony was made of her passing. She was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery beside her husband.
