Young Cockrell noticed some geese flying over their house and ran in the house to get a gun. Immediately upon picking up the gun, both barrells discharged at the side of his head, killing him instantly. It was believed that he struck the gun against something causing it to discharge. Mr. Cockrell is deputy sheriff of Delaware county and his mother is postmistress at Colcord. Other survivors are a brother, Max, and a sister Darlene. Funeral services were held in the Colcord school auditorium Sunday, Nov. 12. Rev. H.O. Riley officiated. Interment was in the Rowe cemetery, directed by the Green funeral home.
