Max was born August 10, 1920, in Mazie, Okla., the seventh of ten children born to Earnest and Grace "York" Goble, as his family was trekking westward from Illinois. Their destination was Longview, Wash., but they got only as far as Salem, Ore., when the rain got too much for them. Heading back for Illinois, they camped out one night in Medford under a large oak tree near the Medco Lumber Mill site. Max's father, Ernest, took a job with Medco. Hence, in 1924, the family made the decision to stay on in Medford. Max served his country as a Motor Pool Technical Sergeant on the island of Hawaii until his discharge March 22, 1942. After spending 40 years of dedicated employment, he retired on June 17, 1982. On July 2, 1949, Max married Arlene Troxell and together they raised four children. Max and his wife, Arlene, owned a 65 acre ranch in Eagle Point, where they worked hard raising both Hereford and Angus cattle and operating the ranch. When there was time, Max liked to fish, hunt and spend time in their cabin at the coast. Max is survived by his wife, Arlene Troxell; one brother, Rex Goble; his children, Clyde (Lavina) Goble, of Bonney Lake, Wash., Venita (Ron) Rushton, of Gold Hill, Ore., Loren (Connie) Goble, of Fairfield, Calif. and Tawny (Tim) Bott, of Kiowa, Colo; eight grandchildren, Shawn (Beth), Ryan (Meghan), Kevin (Kelsie) Goble, Gabriel, Jeremy, Aaron, Rushton, Brittany and Elizabeth Goble; and three great grandchildren, Savannah, Bayley and Logan Goble. Max was proceded in death by his mother and father; sisters, Lola, Vivian, Ruth and Eva; and brothers, Victor, Oris and Wendell. The family is very grateful to the staff at KC's Adult Family Care Home for their exceptional, compassionate care and for making Max's last days so pleasant. There will be a viewing at the Medford Conger Morris on February 5, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. A short family graveside service will follow, at 2:00 p.m. at the Eagle Point Veterans Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1974 E. McAndrews Rd., Medford. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Medford Nazarene mortgage deduction fund would be appreciated by the family.
