All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ***************************************************** November 25 1994 - MARION LOUISE PHIPPS-SIMPSON has died on November 25, 1994 at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, OK, after heart failure. She was a long-time resident of Mayes County. Born August 12, 1931 in Hanna OK at the home of her maternal grandmother Sarah Stewart-Phipps, to Elmer and Mary Bell PHIPPS. The family lived in Strang where Marion was Secretary for her 8th grade class in 1947, enjoyed being on the basketball team and a cheerleader. She was a 1951 graduate of Pryor High School. Marion was married to Dale Dean SIMPSON on November 24 1952 in Pryor; the couple raised five children together. Marion was preceeded in death by her father Elmer Lee PHIPPS, her brother Norman Lawson PHIPPS, and her in-laws Bill and Stella SIMPSON. She is survived by her mother Mary Bell PULLUM-PHIPPS of McAlester; two brothers Elmer LeRoy & Cinda PHIPPS of McAlester and Johnny Max & Sandra PHIPPS of Chouteau; three sisters Helen & Wayne HARRIS of Tulsa, Hazel Alene & Bill WILLIAMS of Denver Colorado, and Terry Iris & Ron JOHNSON of Indianola; two daughters Patricia & Richard KNOWLES of Locust Grove, Donna FRAGO of Muskogee; three sons Rick & Kathy SIMPSON of Locust Grove, Bill & Jayme SIMPSON of Coweta, and Dale SIMPSON of the home. She is also survived by Dale D. SIMPSON of Wagoner, their 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and numerous neices and nephews, and uncle Alvin PHIPPS of Strang, and many cousins. Services will be held at Lakeside Baptist Church in Salina, officiated by Carl Belew. Marion will be buried in the Brian's Chapel cemetery, Boatman, Oklahoma. Marion enjoyed playing games, fishing, hunting for wild mushrooms and blackberries, and spending quality time with her family.
