George Beach, of Chickasaw Indian lineage, was born March 18, 1888 in Montague, Texas. He has been a resident of Purcell since 1929. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Purcell Eagle Lodge. McClain county lost another pioneer citizen and community builder in the death of George Beach. Mr. Beach was an early day resident of what is now McClain county before statehood. He was first engaged in farming up Walnut Creek and later changed over to carpenter work. He finally wound up life's work as a work foreman for the state highway department, which placed him in command of the maintenance program on the state highways of this region. Working with him in that assignment were the late Frank McCall, Andy Summers and the late Bob Gillihan. Beach also associated, at one time, with J.C. Nance in the house building enterprise in Purcell. His wife, Gordie, preceded him in death more than 15 years ago.
