Cardinal, 69, a former resident of the Purcell-Lexington area, died April 4 in the Norman Municipal Hospital following an extended illness. Born at Clyde, Kansas, Cardinal had lived in this area from 1920 to 1964 when he moved to Moore. He was a veteran of World War II and retired from the Santa Fe railroad in1967 where he worked with a section crew. He was a member of the Purcell American Legion Post #49. Funeral services were held Saturday in Little's Conner-Sparlin Chapel, with Chaplain Joseph D'Sinva of Ft. Sill officiating. Burial was in Hillside cemetery, following full military rites by Ft. Sill Army Base personnel. Cardinal is survived by his wife, Atha, of the home in Moore; a daughter, Betty Smithey of Dallas, Tex.; three brothers, Leo of Purcell; Albert of Wayne; Leroy of Hobbs, N.M.; two sisters, Helen Hon of Las Vegas, Nev.; Mary Todd of Sacramento, Ca; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ft. Sill personnel served as pall bearers. Honorary bearers were Leo Wigley, Mike Tinsley, H.L. Morris, William Bernard, Ed Rinehart, John Grimes, Earl Sherman, Buddy Williams, David King, Sr., Jim Wilson, Jedle Sparlin, David Sparlin, Leon C. Powell, Theo Todd and Curtis M. Atchley.
