Herron Golden Blanche L. Herron Golden, 93, of Purcell died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003 in Purcell. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003 at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Services are under the direction of Wilson- Little Funeral Home of Purcell. ========= Norman Transcript 23 Sep 2003 Blanche L. Herron Golden Blanche L. Herron Golden, 93, of Purcell died Sunday, Sept. 21, in Purcell. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell with the Rev. Wayne Brown officiating. Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell is handling arrangements. Mrs. Golden was born Nov. 22, 1909, in Stratford, the third of 10 children born to Robert Edward and Ethel Lucinda Edwards Carleton. She grew up in Stratford and graduated from Stratford High School in 1927. She attended Northeastern for two years before marrying J. Arthur Herron in December of 1929. They lived in Purcell in the 1940s where Mr. Herron was an educator for Purcell Public Schools. She then attended Central State University where she received a teaching degree in 1950 and a master's degree in education. She taught school in California in the 1960s and taught in Amarillo, Texas, in the 1970s. She and her husband returned to Purcell in 1978 after she retired to be close to their family. Mr. Herron died in 1984. She moved to the Rivermont Retirement Community in Norman in 1989. There, she met Jack Golden. They were married in 1991 and Mr. Golden died in 1994. Mrs. Golden was a member of First Baptist Church in Norman and was active in the Eastern Star for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf throughout her life. She moved to the Purcell Assisted Living Center in July 2002 because of her failing health. Mrs. Golden was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ethel Carleton; two husbands; brothers, Gus, Paul, Jack and R.E. Jr.; sister, Sue Mayberry; two infant children; sister, Claudine; and brother, Carlos.
