Hardin passed away on June 27, 2005 at the age of 79. He was born on April 23, 1926 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Claude Sterling Hardin, Sr., and Avery Gladys Spears Hardin. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart Medal. Claude lived in the Purcell/Lindsay area for 16 years and worked as an Insurance Accountant and Auditor. He married Mary Howton on December 8, 1988 at the Erin Springs Baptist Church. Claude enjoyed railroading, computers and traveling. He was a member of The Katy Historical Railroad Society for 50 years and a member of the Masons for 50 years also and a member of the Methodist Church. Claude is preceded in death by his parents, and one step-son, Jerry Randall Howton, He is survived by his wife Mary Howton Hardin, and his step-children; Joyce Howton Gabbard, of Denver, Colorado, Jan Bray and her husband Rick, of Lindsay, OK, and Judith Wells, of Lindsay, OK. He is also survived by one very dear cousin, Becky Llewellyn, of San Diego, California, and his very best pal, Bruce Tompkins, of Weatherford, Texas, five grandsons, one granddaughter and two great grandsons. Funeral services for Claude will be held at the First Baptist Church of Lindsay, OK on Friday, July 1, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Randy Allen and words of comfort will be given by Lisa Wells, Becky Llewellyn, Joyce Gabbard and J. Bray. Claude will be laid to rest at the Green Hill Cemetery, Lindsay, Oklahoma. Military Honors will be presented by the Lindsay American Legion, Ball Smith-Post 23. Taps will be played by John Geffre and the American Flag will be presented to Bruce Tompkins. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of B. G. Boydston Funeral Home.
