May Ave. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Vondel L. Smith & Son in Oklahoma City. Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary is handling arrangements. Mr. Long was born Dec. 22, 1922, in Wayne, to James F. and Mary Katherine (Nemecek) Long. He attended school in Wayne and Norman. He graduated from Norman High School. He attended the University of Oklahoma before joining the Marine Corps. He served in the South Pacific Ocean during World War II. He married Jewell M. (Judy) Caldwell Aug. 6, 1948, after returning home. He was a homebuilder and is credited with building more than 600 homes in the Oklahoma City area. He was a member of Quail Springs Baptist Church, was a 32nd degree Mason, Shriner, a member of the Norman Kiwanis Club and was an active member of the Oklahoma Home Builders Association. He enjoyed OU football and was an avid sports fan. He was known as “papa.” Mr. Long is survived by his wife, Judy; sons, Jim and wife, Marilyn, of Oklahoma City, and John and wife, Alejandra, of Houston; daughter, Kathy of Houston; brothers, Tom and wife, Rutka, of San Jose, Calif., and Charles and wife, Joan, of Wheaton, Ill.; grandchildren, Brian Long of Houston, Kelli (Long) Cossey of Awanui, New Zealand, Jay Long of Oklahoma City, John Phillip and Veronica Long of Houston, and Elodia and Maya Long of Houston; great-grandchildren, Ashton and Will Cossey of New Zealand and Elise Long of Houston; and many other family members and friends. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to McClain County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/mcclain/mcclain.html
