Long Services for John Richard "J.R." Long, 84, were held Monday, June 28, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shephard of the Hills Presbyterian Church with Rev. Thom Balmer officiating and Lois Helms assisting. Interment was at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Cowley-Krien Funeral Home. Mr. Long was born March 27, 1920 in Pauls Valley to John Richard Long, Sr. and Blanch Melviney Munciey Long. He died June 26, 2004 at his residence in Sulphur. On December 4, 1945 he married Carlene Burleson in Purcell. He was born and raised in Pauls Valley. After graduation from high school he went to A & M College for two years then moved to Orange, Texas where he was a welder in the shipyards. He then enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 where he served during World War II until January 1946. After his service, he moved his family to Sulphur where he lived the remainder of his life. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service in Sulphur until his retirement. He was a rancher, a 32nd Degree Mason, an Eagle Scout, and an Elder of the church. He is survived by his wife, Carlene, of the home, two daughters, Carolyn and her husband, Terry Johnson, Sulphur and Brenda and her husband, Donald Foster, Tulsa; four grandchildren, Boone Johnson, Chris and Sebrina Cavins, and B.J. and wife, Jennifer Johnson and three great grandchildren, Remington, Bracelynn and Brailey. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Johnelle Rae Long and a brother, Dr. W.G. Long. Pallbearers were Chris Cavins, B.J. Johnson, Boone Johnson, Doug Cowley, Terry James Johnson and John McCaskill. Honorary bearers were Willis Milton, Bud Graves, W.T.
