'Punk' Michener, 73, died December 3, at his home in Norman with family members present. Services will be Friday, December 6 at 2 p.m. at Mayes Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Cletis Lee officiating. Interment will follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Norman. John was born to Art and Corene (Lee) Michener in Purcell, OK on June 16, 1929. He grew up in the Iron Chapel area in Dibble and graduated from Dibble High School in 1947. After graduation he went to work at American Iron in Oklahoma City and while working there he met the love of his life, Mary L. Fouquet. They were married on August 4, 1952. After three children and a career in the Air Force, he retired in Norman in 1972. He worked for Westinghouse and York International. Until his second retirement in 1991. His interests included his family, grandkids, camping and traveling. He was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a sister, Lorene Balir. Survivors include two sons, David and his wife Debbie of Norman, John Jr. and his wife Nancy of Rifle, Colorado, and a daughter, Vicki Michener of Norman. Three sisters, Irene Stanford and her husband Ellis of Newcastle, OK, Gail Fears and her husband Jimmy of Del City, and Shirlene Allen of Boulder City, Nevada. Grandchildren, Jennifer Ogle and her husband Jake of Yukon, Angela Michener of Norman, Molly Wright, Amy Wright, Nora Michener from Colorado, Amy McBride and her husband Dennis of Harrah, OK, and Greg Conner of Norman. Four Great- Grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Bearers will be Jimmy Fears, Joe Blair, Bill Kitchum, Ellis Stanford, Bob Burgess and Ole Bon Fouquet. Honorary Bearers will be Bob Reynolds, Greg Conner and Jake Ogle. Memorial Contributions can be made to The Alzheimer's Association or The Full Circle Senior Adult Day Center or the charity of your choice.
