All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::B G Boydston FH--Lindsay OK B G Boydston Funeral Home Lindsay OK Fred Wesley Mills April 3, 1917 ~ August 20, 2005 Fred Wesley Mills passed away on August 20, 2005 at the Norman Regional Hospital at the age of 88 years. He was born on April 3, 1917 in the Dibble, Oklahoma to Archey Edmond and Sarah Josephine Mills. Fred was one of nine children. He married Vivia Oleta Cook of Purdy Oklahoma on May 30, 1942. The wedding ceremony was in Phoenix Arizona while Fred and Oleta were on their way to Los Angeles, California, to work for Douglas Aircraft. Later Fred joined the Army and worked in aircraft maintenance during WWII until his honorable discharge on 24 April 1946. His first child was born while Fred was on active duty in the Philippines. When Fred returned home, he was employed by Rural Electric Coop in Lindsay where he worked for 33 years until his retirement. He farmed and ranched during those years and raised four children. He was a faithful member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Lindsay and served his Lord as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for many years. Fred loved children and had a gentleness that could calm their fears and dry their tears. He loved to garden and took delight in giving away the best of his crops to friends, neighbors, and family. His kindness and willingness to help others exemplified his faith and values. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, brothers and sisters Dormie Mills and Alvin (Sonny) Mills, Gladys Stidham, Lucille Duke Lanter, Velman Mae Vinzant, and Faye Minor. Fred is survived by his children, Wesley David Mills and wife Lana of Bedford, Texas, Howard Wayne Mills and wife Kelli of Pryor, Oklahoma, Phillip Randolph Mills of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Jana Foy Mills Gibson and husband Chuck Gibson of Clinton, Oklahoma. He is also survived by a sister, Vadys Mills Minson and her husband Kenneth of El Paso, Texas, a brother Elton Mills and his wife Lavera of Blanchard, as well as grandchildren Kari, Laura, Jon, Jared, Leah, James, Jason, Ryan and great-grandchild Cody. Fred is also survived by his “Best Friend” Billy Ramsey and her family who shared many special occasions and family reunions. In honor of his military service the Lindsay American Legion will conduct a 21 gun salute and play taps. Services for Fred are scheduled for August 24, 2005 at 10 AM at the First Baptist Church, Lindsay Oklahoma. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home.
