Mars, 82, of Goldsby died Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Norman Regional Hospital. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Washington Cemetery with the Rev. Ken Huddleston officiating. Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell is handling arrangements. Mr. Mars was born June 9, 1921, in Maud, to Dennis A. Mars and Peva Smith Mars. He was inducted into the Army in 1942 and served three years during World War II. His active duties took him to Rome and the Africa theaters. He was a scout reconnaissance soldier and was a recipient of three bronze stars. He was honorably discharged, returned home and married Imogene King Jan. 20, 1946, at Purcell First Baptist Church parsonage. Mr. Mars was a sheet metal mechanic at Tinker Air Force Base. He retired in 1976 after 33 years of civil service. He then began working for Shawnee Regional Hospital and retired in 1992. Mr. Mars is survived by his son, Michael Mars and wife, Jennifer, of California; grandchildren, David, Stephanie and Michael Mars; great- grandchildren, Brice and Zoe; brother, Jack Mars and wife of Goldsby; sisters, Ruth of Goldsby and Lucille of Texas; and many other family members and friends. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to McClain County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/mcclain/mcclain.html
