Ratliff On Saturday at 9:55 o'clock in the morning occurred the death of Winters A. Ratliff, son of Johnnie E. Ratliff at the family home in Purcell, on Adams street. Winters A. Ratliff was born September 21, 1894, in Pottawatomie county, being twenty-eight years old. He was raised and lived all his life in McClain county spending the biggest part of his life near Dibble in this county. Winters Ratliff served in the army during the late war with Germany being a member of Company B, 357th infantry, and was wounded in the St. Mehjel drive and taken to the hospital for some seven or eight months. After the war he returned to Purcell where he remained but went to New Mexico a little over a year ago in the hope that the climate would benefit him, his old army wound giving him much trouble. However the trouble grew continually worse until a few weeks before his death when his father, Johnnie E. Ratliff, brought him home his death occurring soon afterwards. Winters was married on Jun 1920, to Miss Bonnie Celery and two children were born to this union who with his wife survive him. Besides his wife and children, his father, Johnnie E. Ratliff, and mother and one brother survive him besides a number of other relatives. He was a member of the Free Will Baptist church, the Masonic fraternity being a 32nd degree member and a member of the American Legion. Funeral services were held Sunday, January 7, at 10:30 o'clock at the Baptist church with the members of the American Legion in charge and the Masonic lodge in attendance. The services was held by Rev. Bell of the Baptist church after which the body was taken to Dibble where interment was made. A firing squad of the American legion accompanied the body to its last resting place. A very large number of friends of the deceased attended the services.
