Rankin Aug. 31, 1924 - June 29, 2006 Visitation begins Friday, July 7th, from 3-7 p.m. at Hillcrest Mortuary with chapel services Saturday, July 8th, 10:00 a.m., also at Hillcrest Mortuary. Oran was born in Wayne, Oklahoma to Paul and Lola Rankin. His family migrated to Wasco in 1937. Oran attended Wasco High and started working right out of school on a small ranch in Wasco where he met the love of his life, Ethel Dye, in 1942. Oran took Ethel to Las Vegas in 1943 to tie the knot, but was told his wife to be was too young and they had to call home and tell her parents and with a telegram from Dan and Villa Dye, the knot was tied. The marriage only lasted 63 years until January of this year when Ethel was called home. Oran could not wait to be with the love of his life again and after a short illness he went home to be with her. Oran worked in the oil fields in the late 40s, and with the help of his brother-in-law, Roy Patterson, was hired by PG&E in 1952 here he retired in 1977. Oran was a Sunday school teacher, deacon, leader of the Royal Rangers at Bethel Temple Church, and was the Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 671. Oran was the oldest of five children with brothers, Bill, Troy, and Ken and sister, Barbara. Oran is preceded in passing by his wife of 63 years, Ethel and is survived by two sons, Oran Jr. and Denis Wayne; four grandchildren, Candace, Jason, Austin, and Vance; three great-grandchildren, Collin, Cameron and Hanna.
