Strong, 77, died Monday, July 28, in Hobart after a short illness. Services were Saturday in Hobart. Burial was at Hobart Rose Cemetery. Hackney-Gish Funeral Home in Hobart handled arrangements. Mr. Strong was born Jan. 21, 1926, to Carl W. and Viola (Marler) Strong in Hobart. He graduated from Hobart High School in 1947. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean conflict. He was injured in action on Okinawa in 1944 and received the Purple Heart Medal. He was recalled to service during Korea but remained stateside. He married Mary Elizabeth (Betty) O’Neal Jones in California in 1960. He retired from Union Oil Company of California and moved to Hobart in 1998. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hobart. Mr. Strong was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. Mr. Strong is survived by his daughter, Jeanne Timmons of Burke, Va.; step-son, Carl Jones of Casper, Wyo.; step-daughters, Jean Branham of Halifax, N.C., and Ann Smith of Roper, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; brother, Bill Strong and wife, Frieda, of Norman; sister, Evelyn Hudson of Lubbock, Texas; sister-in-law, Frances Rausher of Hobart; and “good golfing buddy,” Charles “Doc” Barker of Hobart. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Kiowa County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/kiowa/kiowa.html
