"Mose" Smith Graveside services for Murl E. "Mose" Smith, 79, Sulphur, were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 17 with Dr. Brad Ransom officiating. Interment was in Oaklawn Cemetery with Krien Funeral Home of Sulphur in charge of arrangements. Born May 9, 1927 in Purcell to Jim and Odessa (Hammers) Smith, he died Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Sulphur Veterans Center. He grew up and attended school in Sulphur; joined the U.S. Navy and after honorably serving his country, he returned to Sulphur to pursue his high school education. While attending school, he met Nola Higgins and they were married on June 18, 1947 in Davis. The couple remained in Sulphur all their lives and raised four children. He liked to farm, mostly raising sheep. He had worked at Chickasaw National Recreation Area in the maintenance department until his health failed earlier this year. He is survived by his wife, Nola; two sons, Steve Smith, Yukon and Kent Smith, Denton, Texas; two daughters, Lisa A. Smith, Sulphur and Janie Dollar, Pittsburg, Kan.; one brother, Chuddie Smith, Guthrie; one sister, Peggy Norton, Sulphur; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
