White Mrs. Mary White was born January 22, 1844 in Wood county, Texas and sided Thursday, August 23, in Purcell Oklahoma at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 2 days. Funeral services were held Saturday. August 25, at 4 o'clock P.M. at the family residence in Purcell, being conducted by Rev. J. H. Towry, former pastor of the Christian church in Purcell. Interment was made in Hillside cemetery. A large assemblage of friends and neighbors were present at the services at the home and at the cemetery. Mrs. White’s maiden name was Mary Elizabeth DeSpain and her father the Rev. DeSpain was a pioneer Christian minister of eastern Texas. In 1868 she was married to Mr. George White at Howe, Texas, who preceeded her to the beyond three years. After her marriage they lived at various points in Texas until thirty-two years ago when they moved to Purcell which place has been the family home since. Mr. White was a pioneer cattleman, taking the first cattle ever taken into Greer county, then in Texas. Mrs. White had been an invalid for a number of years but in January suffered an attack of flu which was the beginning of the illness that caused her death. She had been very ill for sometime preceding her death. Every care and attention was given to her but death came on Thursday at midnight. Four children were born to Mr. And Mrs. White but only two survive her, Miss Tannie White of Purcell and Mrs. W. D. Trueblood of Corpus Christi, Texas. Both were present at the time of her death.
