She was born in Blanchard, OK, June 15, 1923, to Reuben Albert and Lyda Stewart. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Oklahoma, in 1945 and briefly worked on her Master Degree. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority at OU. While teaching English and Business classes at University High School in Norman, she met and soon married, Clayton E. Woodard, June 22, 1945. They had been residents of Drumright, OK, for 15 years, before moving to Tulsa, in 1965. In Tulsa, Maryelyn was active as a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, DAR, PEO Sisterhood Chapter DL and other charity groups. Maryelyn was an accomplished pianist and played for several years in a Drumright piano quartet. She was an avid bridge player, needlepointist, reader and enjoyed listening to classical music and music of the '40s. She was preceded by her husband of 58 years, C.E. Woodard, MD and survived by: son and daughter-in-law, Stewart and Monica Woodard of Lawrenceville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Linda Woodard of Tulsa; her sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Tom Woodward of Oklahoma City; and grandsons, Nolan Woodard of Atlanta, GA, Branden Woodard of Pittsburgh, PA and Clayton Woodard of Jacksonville, FL. Gifts may be made "In Memory of Maryelyn Woodard" to First United Methodist Church of Drumright, or United Methodist Francis Willard Home. Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Floral Haven Chapel, Broken Arrow, OK, 252-2518.
