The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Illness Fatal to Howard Williams - Served 20 Years with Santa Fe The Purcell Register - January 2, 1964 Howard Thomas (Rekus) Williams, 51, a former Purcell resident and long-time employee of the Santa Fe railroad, died on Dec. 21, in an Oklahoma City hospital. He had retired from the railroad more than a year ago because of his health and had been seriously ill for several months. Born on June 12, 1912, at Purcell, he was the son of the late Fred R. Williams and Mrs. Mary J. Williams, Purcell. He attended Our Lady of Victory elementary school and was a graduate of Purcell high school with the class of 1934. During World War II Williams served in the Third and Seventh divisions and was a member of the 10th Armored division. After the war he returned to his position with the Santa Fe and retired in 1962 after 20 years of service. He had lived most of this time in Arkansas City. He is survived by his wife, Maurine, of the home in Arkansas City; two sons, Howard Keith and Davis Thomas, both of the home, two sisters, Mrs. C.A. Maddon, Purcell, and Mrs. Bill Brooks, Duncan; two brothers, Buddy Williams, Purcell and L.A. Williams, Dallas, Texas. Funeral services were conducted on Dec 23 in Our Lady of Victory church, with Father Donovan officiating. Interment was in Hillside cemetery under the direction of the Yoakum funeral home. Casket bearers were: Bill Bridewell, Harlan Alford, Curtis Melton, B.L. Perry, S.B. Wilson, and Miller Pearson.
