Bun Trailor, aged 45 years, was shot and instantly killed by Virb Echols, 17, Tuesday afternoon, September 1st, about 3:00 p.m., near Hochatown. Mr. Trailor and Julius Bird were laying the foundation of a house for Jim Davison, 2 1/2 miles west of Hochatown, when the tragedy occurred. Trailor was shot in the forehead and breast with a single- barrel shot gun. Neither of the men saw the boy and it would not have been known who did the shooting, if young Echols had not gone to Idabel with Bill Woods, mail carrier, and surrendered to officers. Trailor was killed near the place where he killed George Echols, father of Virb Echols, late in July. Trailor had been out on bond about two weeks. Echols' family lived about 100 yards from where the killing occurred. Trailor was a son-in-law of Will Batson, and had lived at Hochatown several years. He is survived by his wife and two children. Interment was made Wednesday at Hochatown. Young Echols is now in jail at Idabel awaiting trial. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to McCurtain Archives http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/mccurtain/mccurtai.htm
