Bell Newspaper: McCurtain Gazette, Idabel, McCurtain Co., Oklahoma Dated: 4-21-2002. = Bell Services Set Monday = John H. Bell, 92, Holly Creek passed away Saturday, April 20, 2002, at Christus St. Joseph's Health System, Paris, Texas. He was born Nov. 22, 1909, at Dothan, Ala., the son of Lewis and Amanda Bell. John and Verna Carter were married April 29, 1932 at Idabel. John enjoyed fishing, loved gospel singing, was a former singing school teacher and taught the Stamps-Baxter music. He was a former President of the Eastern McCurtain County Singing Convention, and was an ordained minister. He had lived in the area all of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Bell; and one daughter, Glenda Harkey. John leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Johnny Ray Bell, Long Branch, Texas; and Steve H. Bell, Holly Creek; four daughters, Doris Hawkins, Lukfata; Ruth Orr, Rogers, Ark.; Elaine Foster, Lukfata; and Lois Johnson, Weatherford, Texas; one brother Jack Bell, Broken Bow; three sisters, Myrtle Burris, Sulpher Springs, Texas; Lucille Lafferty, Houston, Texas; and Sylvia Hill, Vertrum, Texas; 26 granchildren, 34 Great-granchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Funeral services willl be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 22, at Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church. The Revs. Cletus Hawkins and Joe Hughes will officiate. Burial will follow in Holly Creek Cemetery, Holly Creek Community.
