CLINTON COMMITS SUICIDE ____________ NEAR HIS HOME AT HOCHATOWN EARLY MONDAY; FUNERAL TUESDAY John K. Clinton, age 23 years, of Hochatown, was found dead with a bullet wound in his head at 10 a.m. Monday about 200 yards from his home, appar- ently a victim of suicide. Clinton was found lying on his back with his head in a pool of blood. He had been shot just above the right ear. Death was believed to have been instantaneous. The suicide theory was advanced by officers after they had been informed that Clinton had been the principal figure in a shooting fray Sunday night in which his father-in-law, Fred Piper, was seriously wounded. Members of the Piper family said Clinton and Piper had on several occasions engaged in heated arguments over domestic affairs. Piper, accompanied by his wife and son, went to Clinton's home Sunday night. As they approached the house, officers were told, Clinton appeared at the door of his home and opened fire. One of four bullets struck Piper in the neck, wounding him seriously. Immediately after the shooting, Clinton left his home and had not been seen until his body was found early Monday. Clinton is survived by his wife and two children, Jack Ramona, age 3, and Valigean, age 1; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Clinton, Hochatown; three sisters, Miss Pauline Clinton, Hochatown; Misses Juanita and Irene Clinton, Idabel, and four brothers, Tiny, Willard, Joe Ed, and Lundy Clinton, all of Hochatown. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Broken Bow Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, by Rev. Barney Sharp, of Winthrop, Arkansas, and interment was made in the Holly Creek cemetery under the direction of the Skaggs Undertaking Company of Idabel. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to McCurtain County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/mccurtain/mccurtai.htm
