Farren Melvill A. Farren, 77, of Marble Falls, a former Amarillo resident, died Saturday, August 2, 1997, in Alamosa, Colo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bell Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Bowlin of First Baptist Church of Bushland officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by SchoolerGordon Funeral Directors, 5400 Bell St. Mr. Farren was born in Eagletown, Okla., and grew up in the Texarkana area. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 and served during World War II. He flew with the Flying Tigers. He was a tail gunner in 101 missions over China. He was a member of the 25th Fighter Squadron, CBI, 51st Fighter Group. He received the Purple Heart and was honorably discharged in 1945. Mr. Farren married Lorraine Riddell in 1946 at Cee Vee. He attended Wayland Baptist College in Plainview for three years. He farmed in the Texas Panhandle from 1947 to 1952, when he began working at the Amarillo Airbase as a civilian supervisor. He was transferred to Andrews Air Force Base in 1968. He retired in 1969 and moved back to Amarillo. He worked for Bell Helicopter as an instrument supervisor from 1969 to 1973, when he retired. Mr. Farren was a member of Bluebonnet Hills Baptist Church in Marble Falls. He was a former member of Bell Avenue Baptist Church and a past master at Tascosa Masonic Lodge. He was a life member of Palo Duro Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He was a York Rite 32nd degree Mason. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ken Farren and James A. Farren, both of Amarillo; two daughters, Genie Line of Amarillo and Vicki Line of Dalhart; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family will be at 4811 Carole.
