GRAHAM WAS BURIED THURSDAY __________ WAS A WELL KNOWN CITIZEN, BEING MCCURTAIN COUNTY'S FIRST SHERIFF W.T. (Tom) Graham, aged 68 years, passed away Thursday morning of last week at 1:00 a.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arley Sutherland in the Holly Creek Community, following an extended illness of high blood pressure. He had only been confined to his home two weeks prior to his death. Funeral services were held at the Holly Creek school house on Thursday afternoon, September 4, and were in charge of Rev. Bert Jones, Presbyterian minister of Idabel. Mr. Graham lived in Idabel a number of years and was the first sheriff of McCurtain County after Statehood. He served two terms and made a splendid officer. He was widely known and enjoyed the friendship of all who knew him and was regarded as one of our best men and citizens and his passing away has cast a gloom over the entire community in which he has resided the last fifteen years. Mr. Graham's wife passed away several years ago and was laid to rest in the Holly Creek cemetery. He is survived by one son and three daughters, as follows: Sam Graham of Clebit; Mrs. Arley Sutherland, Holly Creek; Mrs. Fletcher Cooper, Lawton, and Mrs. C.D. Johnson. The Broken Bow News joins the many friends of the family in extending sympathy. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to McCurtain County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/mccurtain/mccurtai.htm
