He was born October 18, 1921 in Idabel, Oklahoma. Bill was raised at the American Legion Home School, Ponca City, Oklahoma and graduated from Ponca City High School. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years during WWII, where he was assigned to General McArthur's Headquarters Unit. After the war, Bill obtained his Bachelors Degree at Oklahoma City University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He lived in Dallas, Texas from 1951 to 2001, working as a University textbook salesman. At the time of his death, he lived at Bellevue Health Center, Oklahoma City. Bill loved to travel and made several trip to the areas in the Pacific where he served during the war. He enjoyed entertaining his many friends and was an excellent host, especially during the OUTexas weekends. He is survived by two sisters, Ethel F. Pate and her husband, Joe of Oklahoma City and Leona Wells of Lakeside, California, and many nephews and nieces. Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 19, 2005, at the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks for a contribution to Prevent Blindness, 6 NE 63rd, Suite 150, Oklahoma City, OK 73105.
