Harkey Dated: December 8, 1938 News Paper: McCurtain Gazette, Idabel, Oklahoma PIONEER HOLLY CREEK FARMER DIED MONDAY L. E. Harkey died December 5, 1938, age 73. He was born in Cass County, Texas, removed to Holly Creek community in April, 1915, where he resided until his death, except one year spent in Colorado. He was married to Carrie Erwin of Linden, Texas, in Feb. 1890. To this union were born eight children, all survive but one, Bish Harkey, who died in Colorado Springs, Colorado, March. 7, 1925. The deceased is survived by his wife and the following children; Marvin L. Harkey of Broken Bow, Okla., Grady Harkey of Idabel, Okla., Mrs. W. P. Mayo of Prestonburg, Ky., J. P. Harkey of Idabel, Okla., Mrs. H. L. Rimmer of Baldwyn, Miss., Lorinne Harkey of Oklahoma City, Byron Harkey also of Oklahoma City, and fifteen grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. C. Holcomb, pastor of Baptist church, Idabel, at the Holly Creek school, interment in Holly Creek Cemetery. Active pallbearers consisted of grandsons of Mr. Harkey.
