Hastings died at his home, 2 1/2 miles northwest of Broken Bow, last Friday afternoon, December 21st, at 4:30, after a two weeks' illness of pneumonia. Just a few days before Mr. Hastings took sick he was on the streets here looking hale and hearty. He was stricken with a cold and pneumonia immediately set in which caused his death in a very short time. Joe Hastings was born September 5th, 1894, at Sulpher Springs, Arkansas. He came to Oklahoma with his parents in early manhood, living at Golden. At the age of 17 years he united with the First Christian church of Golden and lived a consistent Christian life. He was puclic spirited, always ready to do his bit in any public move. He was one of our best and most highly respected citizens and his going will be sadly missed. He had a large number of friends here and elsewhere over this section, who will be grieved to learn of his death. Mr. Hastings served with honor and distinction in the World War and was overseas over a year. Mr. Hastings was married to Miss Daisye Costilow, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Costilow, of Broken Bow, June 8th, 1920. To this union, four children were born, Jim Mack, 7; Charlie, 6; Jeanette, 4; and Hazel, 2 1/2, all of whom survive. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at the First Baptist church in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives. Rev. G.M. NcNeilly, pastor, had charge of the services. The body was laid to rest in the Crown Hill cemetery here under the direction of Skaggs' Undertaking department of Idabel. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. Out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were: Mrs. M.C. Hastings and son, Mack Hastings, Idabel; Miss Laura Belle and Parker Costilow, Oklahoma City; Harry Costilow, Durant; Jack Costilow, Norman; Mrs. Joe Clarkson, Mountain Pine, Ark.; Mr. and Mrs. T.E.
