The funeral services were held Christmas day. He was a full blood Choctaw and was a harmless, innocent old man, well liked by everyone who knew him. Hleohtambi, pronounced as Leahtombee, was born in Mississippi, and came over with his tribe in 1837, and was said to have been about 18 years old at that time. He was totally blind and was unable to speak the English language. ========= NOTE: This article seems to be really messed up: It is dated November 12, but says the funeral services were held on Christmas day. His age is also in question; if he was 18 years old in 1837, he would only be 106 or 107 years old. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to McCurtain Archives http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/mccurtain/mccurtai.htm
