All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Holly Creek Cemetery--Holly Creek OK McCurtain Gazette Idabel, Oklahoma Friday, June 24, 1977 Services For Irons Conducted Walter Irons 71, died Monday, June 20, 1977 in Broken Bow. Funeral services for Irons were held Thursday in Golden Baptist Church, with the Rev. E.M. Bain of Sulphur Springs, Texas officiating. Born December 17, 1905 at Valliant, Irons had lived most of his life in McCurtain County. He served from 1943 to 1951 as a Deputy Sheriff and from 1953 until 1956 as County Sheriff. At the time of his death, he was employed through the Sheriff's Department as a State Livestock Inspector. He was a member of the Masonic Order, Odd Fellows Lodge and the Golden Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Nancy L. (Harkey) Irons of Broken Bow; three daughters, Doris Greer of Blossom, Texas, Shirley Smith of Hanford, Cal., and Marcia Mofield of Bakersfield, Cal.; three sisters, Emma Wilds of Buellton, Cal., Nellie Baker of Garvin, and Ida Ray of Auburn, Cal., one brother Roy Irons of Buellton, Cal., and 5 grandchildren, Randy Greer, Melanie Smith, Wesley Smith, Gina Jason, and Amanda Mofield. He was preceded in death by his parents Will Irons of Idabel and Connie (Williams) Irons of Hanford, Cal. and one brother Gus Irons of Lemoore, Cal. Special graveside rites were conducted by the masons. Available members of the McCurtain County Sheriff's office attended in full uniform as a tribute to Irons' career in law enforcement.
