All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Memorial Park Cemetery--Muskogee Ok 6:57 PM 10/7/2008Published October 08, 2006 Muskogee Daily Phoenix Normagene Kilgore 1922-2006 Normagene Kilgore, age 83, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Ms. Kilgore was born November 7, 1922 in Idabel, Oklahoma to Elmer and Clara Lee (Caldwell) Kilgore. In 1935, when in the 7th grade, Ms. Kilgore moved to Muskogee, where she graduated from Muskogee Central High School in 1940. She later attended Southeastern Teachers College, Durant, OK. During her Junior and Senior years at Central, Ms. Kilgore carried a paper route for the Muskogee Daily Phoenix, and was the first girl in Muskogee, to have a paper route. She took the route of her two brothers who were in military service during World War II. Ms. Kilgore has been an active member of First Assembly of God Church, Muskogee, since 1942, a period of 64 years. In younger days she taught young peoples and youth group Sunday School classes. During World War II, Ms. Kilgore worked at the German prisoner of war camp, Braggs, Oklahoma. Thereafter, and until her first retirement she was the Executive Secretary for her father, E.M. Kilgore, brothers, Charles Lee Kilgore and James Edward Kilgore of Kilgore Cotton Company, merchants and exporters. She also owned Kilgore Beauty Salon from 1948 through 1955 in downtown Muskogee. She and her sister, Ann Boies, were co-owners of Morgan's Health Care Services for 11 years. After selling Morgan's she worked for Lynch Supply Company, Inc. eight years until retirement February 1, 1990. Ms. Kilgore was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Military Order of the Purple Heart, and did volunteer work for several years at the Five Civilized Tribes Museum. She loved to travel visiting Western Europe three times, Eastern Europe, Russia, Finland, Sweden, the Mediterranean, Africa, Japan, and twice to the Holy Land. She was preceded in death by her mother in 1972, her father in 1986, her brother James in 1993, and her brother Charles in 2003. Survivors are her sister, Ann Boies, and brother-in-law, Bill Boies; niece, Rebecca Ann (Boies) Garrett and husband, Roger; nephew, William Wesley Boies and wife, Parris; niece, Andrea (Boies) Wilcoxen and husband, Jim; niece, Susan Downing and husband, Ronnie; nephew, Mark Kilgore and wife, Lucia; six grandnephews, seven grandnieces, several cousins, many, many friends and her special friend Doris June Wynne, of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The family wishes to thank the nurses and aids at Eastgate Nursing Home and Hometown Hospice. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Steven Rose officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Ms. Kilgore had requested that memorials be made to the First Assembly of God Church Building Fund, 3100 Gulick, Muskogee, OK 74403.
