J.M. LUCAS DIED TUESDAY P.M. Mrs. J.M. Lucas, age 60 years, died at the family home in east Broken Bow, Tuesday night about twelve o'clock, her death being caused by cancer, from which she had suffered for a long time. The past month she had been confined to her bed. The funeral was conducted from the First Methodist church in this city Wednesday afternoon at 3:30, the service being in charge of the pastor, Rev. L.E. Conkin. A large number of friends and relatives were present to pay their last tribute of love and respect. Following the funeral, the body was laid to rest in the Broken Bow cemetery beside her husband J.M. Lucas, and daughter, Mrs. Florence Callaham, who died several years ago. The Skaggs Undertaking Company of Idabel had charge of the funeral directions. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. Members of the Broken Bow high school football team, of which Marvin Lucas is captain, acted as pall bearers, and the high school students marched to the church in a body to attend the funeral. The deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Birdie Jones, who is employed as operator for the local telephone exchange; four sons, Fred Lucas, McAlester; Clarence Lucas, New York City; James and Marvin Lucas, Broken Bow, and three grandchildren, Walter and Jewel Callaham and LaVerne Jones, of Broken Bow. All the children and grandchildren were present at the funeral with the exception of Clarence Lucas, who was unable to attend. Mrs. Lucas professed religion and joined the Methodist church in early girlhood, and has ever since lived a consistent Christian life. The family has lived in Broken Bow a number of years and a wide circle of friends will mourn the passing of this good woman. The News joins in expressions of deepest sympathy for the bereaved relatives. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to McCurtain Archives http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/mccurtain/mccurtai.htm
