Monk Dated: Saturday July 14, 1951 News Paper: McCurtain Gazette, Idabel, McCurtain Co., Oklahoma p.1 col. 6 = ALBERT MONK REPORTED DEAD IN KOREA WAR= War epartment lists Death on Date Unknown Cpl. Albert V. Monk, 23, Millerton, was killed in action in Korea on a date unknown, according to a war department telegram to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William M. Monk, Millerton. He was previously reported missing in action in February 13 of this year. Born July 23, 1928, at Plainview, he spent almost his entire live at Millerton before entering service. He served one hitch in service during the war and received the World War II victory medal. He received his discharge December 13, 1947. He worked for a time at Tulsa and volunteered for a second time in August of 1949 at the Idabel recruiting station. He was sent to Japan and attended a cooking school there, and he was sent to Korea shortly after the outbreak of fighting there. His last schooling was at Mount Zion, and he helped his father farm and operate a service station before entering service. He is survived by his parents and the following brothers and siters: Mrs. Emma Jones, Lewisville, Ark., Mrs. Ida Phillips, Oak Grove, La.; William F. Monk, Oak Grove, La.; Mrs. Leveda Harris, Bakersfield, Calif., Mrs. Ruby Nunley, Post, Texas, Mrs. Willie Upton, Albany, Ore., Miss Madie Belle Monk, Post, Texas, Miss Lavona Lee Monk, Albany Oregon, and Miss Nancy Louise, Miss Barbara Ann, Alvin M. and Edward R.
