DIED TUESDAY AT PARIS, TEXAS ______________ WHERE HE HAD BEEN TAKEN FOR AN OPERATION FOR APPENDICITIS. This city received a shock Tuesday morning, when news came of the death of Asa Ponder, Jr., better known as "Sonny," little son of Mr. and Mrs. Asa Ponder, of this city. This sad event took place in the Paris (Texas) Sanitarium, where he had been taken on Wednesday night of last week, suffering from an attack of appendicitis. Everything that medical aid could do was done but death claimed the little life. His father and mother were both with him when the end came. This bright little lad was 6 1/2 years of age and had just completed his first term of school. He was a great favorite with young and old and will be sadly missed by his little friends, as well as the grown-ups, to say nothing of the heartaches of the mother and father. The little form was laid to rest at El Dorado, Ark., former home of Mrs. Ponder, Wednesday afternoon, in the presence of a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives. The floral offerings, which were numerous and beautiful, showed the love that was in the hearts of "Sonny's" friends. Through respect, the First National Bank, of which Mr. Ponder is cashier, remained closed during the entire day, Wednesday. The News joins the host of friends in extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved parents in their sad hour. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to McCurtain Archives http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/mccurtain/mccurtai.htm
