All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Canfield Cemetery--Idabel OK McCurtain County Local Newspaper: July 4, 1929 AGED MINISTER DIED FRIDAY MORNING. Rev. J.A. Raby, 73 years old, passed away Friday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Berry, who live six miles west of Idabel, near Cisco, following an illness of six months of malarial dropsy. He was confined to him home the past month and his death was not unexpected. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Canfield cemetery, three miles west of Idabel, being conducted by Rev. H.A. Finney, Baptist minister of Cisco. A large crowd of friends and relatives were in attendance to pay their last tribute to one who had lived a noble life. Rev. Mr. Raby lived at Rufe, which is located nine miles north of Valliant, for twenty years. He was paster of a Baptist church in that community a number of years, taught school and had been a very useful man until his health failed a few years ago. He remains were laid to rest beside his wife who died January 3, 1929. The deceased is survived by two sons and one daughter, Mrs. G.W. Berry; Sam Raby, Waco, Texas, and Will Raby, Valliant; two brothers, Elder J.M. Raby, of Broken Bow, and Rev. T.J. Raby, California, and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Herndon, of Vinita.
