Rowland Dr. Roy C. Rowland, 70, died Saturday, May 10. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Smith & Kernke Chapel in Oklahoma City. Smith & Kernke Funeral Directors is handling arrangements. Mr. Rowland was born Feb. 23, 1933, in Idabel. He was part of the faculty of the Speech-Language Pathology program at the University of Central Oklahoma for 19 years starting in 1980. He taught numerous courses, supervised practicum and was an audiology consultant for the Regional Hearing-Impaired Preschool during his tenure with the university. After earning his bachelor's degree in Oklahoma, he earned his master's degree in audiology and speech-language pathology from Stanford University in 1960 and his doctorate in audiology from the University of Oklahoma in 1966. He received a juris doctorate from Oklahoma City University law school in 1979. His certification in speech-language pathology and audiology combined with his law degree qualified him to teach a variety of topics, including those dealing with legal and ethical issues. He served with numerous professional boards and associations. He helped secure the placement of the Hearing Impaired Preschool on the UCO campus. He was instrumental in the evolvement of the UCO Speech-Language Pathology program. He married Dee Oct. 23, 1955. Mr. Rowland is survived by his wife; son, William; daughters Michele and Pam and son, Robert Vaughn; grandson, Nathaniel; sister, La Dawn Wells and husband, Flake; aunt, Eva Jane DeWitt; cousins, John and Shayla DeWitt, Jane and Leonard Wooten and their families.
