Emma Settles

Obituary: SETTLES   

Emma Settles, 100, passed away August 5, 1993 in Idabel, Oklahoma. 
Ms. Settles was born June 11, 1893 in Wickes, Arkansas.  

Ms Settles and her family settled in Indian Territory near Garvin 
area in 1900 before statehood. She was a member of the Methodist 
Church. Emma graduated from Southeastern Teachers College in Durant 
in the early 1920's. She also attended the University of Berkley in 
California. She taught 40 years in the schools in McCurtain County 
including Pollard, Peaceville Home, Garvin, Cisco, and Forest Grove. 
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lovie 'Bunch' 
Settles, two sisters, Lula Boren, Bertha Mayer, two brothers, Charlie 
Settles and Roy Settles.  

Ms. Settles is survived by two brothers, Garfield Settles of 
Millerton and Juber Settles of Valliant; one sister, Ester Wooten of 
Garvin and several nephews and nieces including Warren Wooten of 
Garvin; Haven Jo Campbell of Idabel and Gary Settles of Millerton and 
many other loving relatives and friends.
