SMITH WAS BURIED SUNDAY __________ PASSED AWAY EARLY SATURDAY AT SANITARIUM OF PARIS It was with deep regret that the citizens of this city received the announcement of the death of Clifford L. Smith, who passed away at the Sanitarium of Paris, in Paris, Texas, Saturday morning at 8:00 after an extended illness. Mr. Smith was carried to the sanitarium from Dierks, Arkansas, two weeks before his death where he was receiving medical treatment. For many years Mr. Smith resided in Broken Bow and had taught in the rural schools of the county several years. About a year ago he removed to Dierks, Arkansas, with his mother, Mrs. Estelle Smith. He was a member of the First Christian Church of this city and was an active member, and his long residence in the city and his years of service as a teacher gave him a wide acquaintance and many friends. He was born in Guthrie County, Iowa, forty-four years ago; moved to Geddis, South Dakota, when a young man and lived there until almost ten years ago when the family removed to Broken Bow. Deceased is survived by his mother, Mrs. Estelle Smith, who is familiarly known as "Grandma" Smith; two brothers, J.W. Smith, Broken Bow, and Claud Smith, Seminole; and two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Saulisbury, Geddis, S.D., and Mrs. Irene Bowles, San Benito, Texas, Mrs. Bowels and Mrs. Saulisbury were unable to attend the funeral. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church here Sunday morning at 10:00, services being conducted by Rev. M.S. Peek, pastor, where a large crowd of friends and acquaintances gathered to pay last tribute to one of our worthy departed citizens. Special music was furnished by the choir and a solo by Messrs. M. L. Rainwater, E.E. Stinebaugh, Henry Chester and Luke Reed, also a special song by Ernest Jones. Burial was at Crown Hill Cemetery near Broken Bow. Active pallbearers were: B.E. Lambert, W.M. Estes, H.L. Langham, W.A. Folsom, J.V.
