TEMPLE PIONEER CITIZEN PASSED AWAY AT THE PARIS SANATORIUM AT 2 O'CLOCK WEDNESDAY AFTER LONG ILLNESS. Mr. F.W. Temple, well-known Chevrolet dealer of Broken Bow, passed away at the Paris Sanatorium, at 2 o'clock, November 9, after an illness lasting over a period of more than a year. On November 11 of last year Mr. Temple, while accompanying a number of the Broken Bow football squad to Antlers, was seriously injured when the automobile in which he was riding was wrecked near Hugo in a collision with another car. He remained in a critical condition for days having developed pneumonia afterward. His negative health at that time was greatly aggravated by this near-fatal accident and since that time Mr. Temple has suffered from ill health which has kept him from his business much of the time. The deceased, one of the pioneer citizens of Broken Bow, was 56 years of age at the time of his death. He was a native of Tennessee, having moved to Idabel 24 years ago and four years later came to this city. Since that time he has engaged in business in this city, occupying a prominent place in it's development and assuming a leadership in civic and educational work. As the founder of The Broken Bow News, he introduced the first newspaper in this town, and one of the first in McCurtain county. As a graduate of Missouri Law School, he was a qualified lawyer and practiced in his early days in Broken Bow, and also served the city in the capacity of mayor. Mr. Temple is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Yerby of Poteau, Okla., and Mrs. Gladys Manning of Ardmore, Okla.; two sons, Fred and Lawrence Temple, both of this city, and an uncle, Dr. Ed Day, an instructor in A. & M. college at Stillwater. The funeral service was held at the Temple home at 2:30 today, (Thursday) with Rev. W.M. Batton, officiating, interment in the Baptist cemetery (Crown Hill), under the direction of Skaggs Funeral Home. The News joins the many friends of the deceased in extending their sympathy to the bereaved ones. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to McCurtain Archives http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/mccurtain/mccurtai.htm
