JOHN S. VESS DIES AT HOME HERE SUNDAY

John Simon Vess, 78, Broken Bow, died at his home at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.  
He had been in ill health for many years.

Born October 2, 1872, in Tennessee, he had resided in Broken Bow for the
past 45 years, moving from Horatio.  He was a farmer and a member of the
Baptist church.

He is survived by his widow; five daughters, Mrs. Archie Williamson, Burney,
Calif.; Mrs. Freddie Brown, Malvern, Ark.; Mrs. Orville Clayborn, Wright
City, and Mrs. Marbel Lyons and Mrs. Tommie Brown, both of Broken Bow; 
three sons, Quinton Vess, Burney; Sherrill Vess, Smithville, and Elza Vess,
Trona, Calif.; one brother, J.W. Vess, Horatio; one sister, Mrs. N.L.
Leverett, Horatio; 27 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services have been set for 2:30 p.m. today at the Broken Bow
Assembly of God church with Rev. T.C. Burkett officiating.

Arrangements and burial in Eagletown cemetery are under direction of Wilson
Funeral home.

Bearers are Charles Bethel, Alin Herring, William Wallace, Bernie Daniels,
Gene Burk and Glenn Whitehead.
