Lucian Wheat, of Sherwood, was instantly killed Wednesday morning, when the truck on which he was hauling a load of lumber to this city, was wrecked on Carter mountain, about 20 miles from here on the Williams Highway. The brakes of his truck went wrong, he became excited, backed into the mountain and the truck turned over the dump, pinning Mr. Wheat underneath, and crushing his head and body. The wreck was discovered a few minutes later by Game Warden Johnnie Beaver, who was passing. The body was taken to the home at Sherwood and prepared for burial. Interment was made at that place today. The deceased was about 38 years of age, and is survived by a wife, besides many friends and relatives to mourn his untimely death. He has many friends in this city who regret to learn of his death. That place is a dangerous one on the highway and is said to be the same place where a man by the name of Cunningham was killed last year. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to McCurtain County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/mccurtain/mccurtai.htm
