All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Holly Creek Cemetery--Holly Creek OK *McCurtain County Local Newspaper: February 20, 1930 HOLLY CREEK MAN LOST LIFE MONDAY D.E. Whitehead, aged 53 years, was killed accidentally Monday afternoon when a stack of lumber fell upon him. Mr. Whitehead owned a small sawmill near his home in the Holly Creek vicinity, and had gone to the mill to do some work. Not returning home late in the afternoon a member of his family was sent in search of him, finding his body penned under a large stack of lumber at the mill. The mill was not in operation and Mr. Whitehead was alone at the time of his death. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Holly Creek cemetery and were attended by a large crowd of friends and relatives. Mr. Whitehead is survived by his wife and ten children, as follows: Mrs. Ida Neal, Glen, Eddie, Arbie, Ray, Inex, Lorene, Bernice, William and Juanita Whitehead. Mr. Whitehead was an auctioneer and had conducted numerous sales in the county, and was well and favorably known. His friends will regret to learn of his death.
