Though in the seventy-first year of her age Mrs. Whitten had always been remarkably strong and had enjoyed exceptionally good health until the beginning of the illness which claimed her life about two weeks ago. Her sickness was not at first thought to be of a serious character but when itwas realized that her condition was dangerous the members of the family livingaway from Idabel were summoned, and all her children were with her during her last daysof her life except for her oldest son Frank Whitten who himself is seriously ill at Shreveport LA. Two of the daughters of Mrs. Whitten are trained nurses and they were able to give there mother extarordinary efficient care during her last days of her life. This writer has never been more anxious and tender ministration to a sufferer upon a bed of pain than was given by the members of the Whitten family to their loved one. Mary J. Whitten, nee Crenshaw, was born October 27, 1856 in the state of Tennessee. She was married to W.F. Whitten December 27 1883 and of their union were born six children all of whom survive, two sons and four daughters. One of the sons Charles B. has been employed for years as dispatching clerk in the Idabel Post Office. Mrs. Whitten entered the Southern United Methodist Church in her early girlhood and lived a devoted Christian life throughout her long earthly sojourn.Funeral services in her memory were conducted at Fort Towson Cemetery on Thursday afternoon August 11th, the Rev. Willmore Kendall of the First United Methodist Church of Idabel officiating, while extraordinary beautiful music was rendered by the Methodist Choir of Fort Towson. Numberless and profuse floral offerings testified to the universal love and esteem in which Mrs. Whitten was held by her neighbors and friends. (Note: Mary J. Whitten Children are: Francis "Frank" T.
